One of the cornerstone activities developed within the project has been the organisation of local workshops for educators, parents, specialists, and community members. Each of the three partner organizations implemented these workshops following the project’s methodology, while adapting content and activities to their own audiences.

Through these workshops, the partners sought not only to disseminate the LovAble methodology but also to cultivate environments where inclusion, respect, and informed guidance are embraced as shared responsibilities. The initial target of reaching at least 60 participants was substantially surpassed as the three partners jointly engaged far more educators, carers, parents, volunteers, and professionals who work with children with disabilities.

The workshops were structured around the LovAble methodology (PR1), integrating interactive learning, group work, guided reflection, and hands-on activities grounded in the project’s work plan. The diversity of the participants—teachers, psychologists, nurses, therapists, parents, carers, as well as members of associative partner organisations—allowed for rich exchanges of perspectives and practical experiences. Beyond disseminating information, the workshops succeeded in building a sense of community preparedness, ensuring that the conditions for inclusive, developmentally appropriate sex education are strengthened both inside schools and at home.

A shared framework, locally adapted

Although a common methodological structure guided all workshops, each organisation tailored its agenda to the specific needs of its local context. The general structure included registration and introductory sessions, ice-breakers designed to foster trust, a thematic exploration of early childhood sex education for children with disabilities, group work, and reflective discussions. These session elements are echoed across the partners’ agendas. Across the consortium, the workshops ensured that participants were not passive recipients of information but active contributors to discussions about inclusion, consent, boundaries, and safe, developmentally appropriate communication with children.

The target groups: a diverse and interconnected community

The local workshops gathered a broad range of participants: schoolteachers, educators, psychologists, ergotherapists, nurses, parents, carers of children with disabilities, volunteers, and other professionals from or connected to school communities. This diversity allowed partners to address the topic of sex education from various angles—pedagogical, developmental, therapeutic, and family-centered perspectives.

Participants deepened their understanding of early sex education, learned about the rights and needs of children with disabilities in this field, and explored strategies for inclusive communication. Parents and carers, in particular, appreciated the opportunity to align with teachers and specialists, ensuring consistency between school interventions and home environments. Teachers and professionals strengthened their practical skills and expressed increased confidence in addressing sensitive topics in inclusive ways.

Contributing to the objectives of the LovAble project

The workshops played a critical role in advancing the project’s main objectives. They directly contributed to the inclusion of children with disabilities in sex education by creating informed, supportive communities. They also enabled partners to transfer the knowledge acquired through the LTTA to a broader group of educators and specialists, thereby laying the ground for the second project objective: facilitating the use of materials and methodologies for introducing early sex education to children with disabilities.

Moreover, these events provided an opportunity to test elements of the LovAble methodology and educational materials with real users. The feedback collected allowed partners to refine content, validate approaches, and ensure that all outputs are relevant and aligned with the realities of early childhood education.

PSEUC Chalkida workshop summary

The workshop held in Chalkida followed a well-structured agenda outlining a balanced mix of presentations, group discussions, and hands-on activities. Hosted at the Regional Council Hall, the workshop welcomed teachers, parents, therapists, and psychologists from the broader school community. 32 participants engaged in an introductory activity to strengthen group cohesion before entering a thematic exploration led by a specialist facilitator. Group work sessions focused on differentiating between public and private spaces and understanding appropriate boundaries.

CSEI Arad workshop summary

The Romanian partner organized its community workshop for 35 participants, following a structured agenda that reflected the LovAble methodological framework. The workshop’s central session focused on the main theme of early childhood sex education for children with disabilities. Through an interactive presentation, participants explored fundamental concepts such as consent, body autonomy, safe and unsafe behaviors, and the importance of early, consistent communication adapted to each child’s developmental level. The group work session encouraged participants to analyse case scenarios, reflect on family–school alignment, and consider the role of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Participants came from several counties across the western and central regions of the country, which enabled the Romanian partner to gather highly valuable and diverse feedback reflecting a wide range of educational contexts. The workshop concluded with individual reflections, group feedback, and evaluation forms that provided insight into participants’ learning experiences and future needs.

CHALLEDU Athens workshops summary

CHALLEDU organized three separate community workshops—one for staff at Ilion, one for parents at the same institution, and one at the Voula Rehabilitation Centre—each adjusted to its audience, with a total of 26 participants across the three events. Activities included “One card, one story: learn, think, protect,” storytelling-based discussions on consent and safety, and practical exercises using the “Stop-and-Go touches” methodology. Parents and professionals alike expressed appreciation for the clear, accessible methods used to approach sensitive topics.

Beyond the expected results: A broader impact

93 participants reinforced their understanding of the LovAble methodology and expanded the community prepared to support early childhood sex education for children with disabilities.

The workshops established strong foundations for next project stages, ensuring that inclusion becomes a sustained, collaborative effort across schools and communities.

Local community workshops in the LovAble project: Strengthening inclusion and early childhood sex education The LovAble project, an Erasmus+ initiative dedicated to supporting inclusive sex education for children with disabilities in early childhood, places strong emphasis on building informed, confident, and collaborative school communities.
